Long Term Effects: The concurring of Iwo Jima was very important. On the island, before the battle, Japan had two air fields, but because the U.S. won the air fields were shut down. The Japanese bases were important to Japan because at those fields the Japanese would scout for incoming Allied bombers. Now the Japanese doesn't have those bases. Because U.S. took control of the island they had places to land bombers on their way to Japan, which was a huge advantage. Another long term effect is that the plans the Allies were making to take over Japan were written on the island of Iwo Jima. There was some down sides for the Allies thought, there were many casualties and damaged boats and planes.
